Letting Go of Control and Trusting God With Your Timeline
I used to think if I just planned well enough, prayed hard enough, or stayed disciplined enough, everything would fall into place exactly when it was “supposed” to. I had timelines in my head — when certain things would happen, where I’d be, who I’d become.
But life didn’t always follow the plan.
And for a while, that made me feel anxious… like maybe I’d messed something up.
It took me years — and a few very humbling seasons — to realize that God’s timing isn’t something I can control. It’s something I’m invited to trust.
When You Realize You’re Not in Control
There came a point where I had to admit that my version of “trusting God” still involved holding the steering wheel with one hand. I’d say, “God, I trust You,” but then I’d quietly try to speed things up behind the scenes.
And when doors didn’t open? I’d feel frustrated and confused.
But God, in His gentleness, started showing me that the waiting wasn’t punishment — it was protection. He wasn’t saying no; He was saying “not yet, I’m preparing you.”
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. ”
Looking back, I can see so many moments that didn’t make sense at the time but ended up being divine detours. Delays that taught me patience. Pauses that grew my faith.
The Beauty of God’s Timing
It’s funny how we measure progress by speed, while God measures it by surrender.
I’ve learned that it’s okay to slow down. To not have every answer. To trust that the same God who created galaxies also knows exactly when to answer a prayer.
“At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”
There’s such peace in that — knowing I don’t have to rush what God is still writing.
What Letting Go Looks Like
For me, letting go hasn’t been one big dramatic moment. It’s been small, daily choices:
Praying, “Lord, help me to want what You want.”
Not just for my dreams to happen fast, but for them to happen right.Putting comparison down before it poisons my joy.
Someone else’s timeline isn’t my blueprint. God’s story for me has its own rhythm.Thanking Him for what’s here now.
Gratitude reminds me that I’m already living in answered prayers.Writing it all down.
My journal has become a place where I process my waiting with honesty and faith.Speaking truth over impatience.
“God’s timing is perfect. His plan is good. I can trust His pace.”
A Gentle Reminder
If you’re in a season of waiting, I want you to know — you’re not forgotten. You’re being shaped.
God is not withholding blessings; He’s building the foundation to hold them. Sometimes He slows us down so our roots can grow deeper before the next chapter begins.
Letting go isn’t losing control — it’s giving it back to the One who never lost it in the first place.
So breathe. Rest. Trust.
He knows exactly what He’s doing with your timeline.
